OpenStreetMap Ireland and Queen’s University Belfast hosted a mapping event on 21st Feb 2026 to introduce new users to contributing to the map. We started with a presentation by Jonny and Conor explaining the benefits of open mapping

After the presentation we made our way to the GIS lab in Queen’s where Conor Graham got everyone logged in to the lab machines for editing.

The event had a good mix of experienced mappers and newcomers. We were joined by regular contributors latenighttone, Rotilom and also Pablo Brasero who is based in Belfast and currently contracted to work on the global OSM website.

Based on the tag we asked people to use we saw at least 6 contributors map over 163 buildings and this included some as far away as Turkey.
